The test, though is only one part. There needs to be an organization behind it. Is there an existing organization that this should/could be tied to, like the HTML Writer's guild, but for web programmers/developers?

Should not this be closely linked with Zend - to give increased credibility and exposure ? Zend may not want to participate but should they have the chance to get involved if they want to ?

Absolutely, but i think we need to do a minimum of planning and development before Zend, or any other potential sponsor, is contacted. The bottom line is that this can be done with or without the support of Zend (or others). Though, it would certainly be better if they would be willing to at least recognize the cert as valid.

This is a big project that will require some pretty serious commitment, but in the end, if we do it well, it will be more than worth it.

If there are people REALLY interested in working on this, please email me at ccollins@bytemarklabs.com. I think we should still use this site for discussions about the project, as we will need all the help and guidence we can get, and members here are exactly the people that will be using these certs, but the initial organization and administrative crap will just clutter the board.

So, hey all of you are interested, get at me.
